Every Second Counts

I'm sure we all at some time in our life have started writing down our "bucket list" of things we want to do, accomplish, see or be in our life before passing onto the next. I think the past six month I have had been consistently adding to my "bucket list". There have been some incredible (both bad and good) things that I have witnessed that you really don't know when it's your time to pass.

I just finished reading an amazing book "Left to Tell" by Immaculee Ilibagiza (About Left To Tell ImmaculĂ©e shares her miraculous story of how she survived during the Rwanda genocide in 1994 when she and seven other women huddled silently together in the cramped bathroom of a local pastor’s house for 91 days! In this captivating and inspiring book, ImmaculĂ©e shows us how to embrace the power of prayer, forge a profound and lasting relationship with God, and discover the importance of forgiveness and the meaning of truly unconditional love and understanding—through our darkest hours.)

This book was absolutely amazing, inspiring and definitely a tear jerker. To experience a culture holocaust/genocide, I hope I never have to personally witness. To read about one woman's experience of the pain and loss that she went through is really a very humbling experience. 91 days in a bathroom with 7 women, hiding, wondering if their lives would be saved. They didn't know if today or tomorrow would be the day- the day of their death. However 91 days, a lot of thinking would definitely take place. The past, the present and wishing for the future.

I have really thought about this book and the first thought that comes to my mind is "I'm so blessed". This book really allows you to think about life and how things can change in a second.

Taking a look at a completely different but yet similar story. My dear friend told me about a show she watched last night. "Last Lecture" - Professor Randy Pausch. I decided to You Tube the lecture. I listened to the lecture while here at work.

He had a timeline on his life - 3-6 months to live. I don't know if it would be easier to have a timeline or not! He gave his "last lecture" giving some great stories and life experiences. Truly an inspiration to watch!

After listening to his lecture there were a few things that stuck out:

"Be prepared: "luck" is where preparation meets opportunity"

"Find the best in everyone; no matter how you have to wait for them to show it"
"If someone is mad at you, give them time. You can't force them to feel the way you want them to. Just give them time"

"Walls that you hit in your life are there for a reason. They are there for those that are not willing to work at getting over it. To weed out the weak"

and on relationships (advise for women):
"Ignore everything he says. Notice everything he does"

Great life lessons !

Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch (Oct. 23, 1960 - July 25, 2008) gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007, before a packed McConomy Auditorium. In his moving presentation, "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams," Pausch talked about his lessons learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career and personal goals.

Two different individuals from two cultures/countries but yet both facing the realization of life coming to an end. I'm so lucky to have dear friends that have opened my eyes and introduced me to these wonderful stories. Ashley for letting me be part of your book club! I absolutely loved this book! And Anita for letting me know about the Lecture! Both awesome stories.

I guess the reason for this blog is: life is too short!

I'm not trying to have this blog be depressing or negative, but really you never know when life will come to an end.

Pioneer Day!

“Pioneer children sang as they walked and walked and walked AAANNNDDD walked” - You gotta love Primary songs!

Being that it’s Pioneer Day tomorrow, I thought I would write a blog to celebrate this day! Take a moment and think back to the when they were traveling across the country. Imagine the drudgery of walking hundreds of miles, suffocating dust, violent thunderstorms, mud, temperature extremes, bad water, poor forage, sickness, and death.Just thinking about those things somewhat makes me feel overwhelmed and makes me wonder if I wo
uld give up. Just thinking about the odds that were against them, I am amazed at their willingness to continue and press forward. Strong willed individuals to say the least!

I think sometimes we overlook how easy our lives our. I think we forget the sacrifice that individuals gave to enable a better life for us! I am grateful for the men, women & children (even the oxen) that made this journey!

I’ve tried imagining life as a pioneer............ and this is what I would imagine.

(My sisters and I, with MA & PA in our wagon!)

Here Fishy Fishy

STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR

The buzzer of the alarm, a continuous beeping to the point of annoyance - I’ll tell you what, 4:45am rolls around really fast!!! BUT that’s what needs to happen if you want to catch the "BIG" fish!

Justin, Anita, Doug and I spent a Saturday up at Strawberry Reservoir fishing. We couldn’t have asked for a more PERFECT day! Water was calm, sun was shining (don’t worry we all got burnt! I looked like a raccoon from my glasses) and the fish were biting! What more could we have asked for!

I suppose this is where I start bragging about my fishing skills! Within the first ten mins of getting on the boat, I was the first one to bring one in! 22"inches and fat!!! What can I say.. I know how to Hook them!!! Catching a total of 4, with Justin behind me catching 3!

Poor Doug and Anita they didn’t catch any! They definitely had a lot of bites but definitely had time to relax!

What can I say I love fishing!!

Date Night @ the ballpark

Tonight Jackson and I had a "date night"!! For those of you that know what a "perfect" date is, you will agree there is nothing better than a baseball game!! We took Trax up to the stadium and from there enjoyed a Victory from our very own Salt Lake Bees!

This was the PERFECT DATE!!! Thanks Jackson for being such a sweetheart!

~UINTAHS~

Moosehorn - Kings Peak
Most people go for the "pop" "bang" and "sparkles" over the 4th of July weekend. Personally I was blessed enough to go enjoy the great outdoors for the holiday weekend.

We made camp at Moosehorn which was within 100 yards from the lake! Could we get any closer to a lake for fishing!!!

However my friend Jeff has been talking about this "hidden" lake that his dad use to take him to, during his childhood years. (I realized why it was the "hidden" lake. The sign was laying down on the ground! No signage. No lake!)

The hike to the lake was a fun .25 miles. The weather couldn't have been better (if you ignore the 30 mins of wind and rain while we were at the lake)

Fishing was amazing.... bites left and right! I had to throw Kona's ball out in the water for her to go after to scare the fish away!! ha ha (actually if you know anything about labs, they LOVE water! Let me just say, my pole was resting nicely against a tree as I played fetch with Kona in the lake!)

In just our short stay we saw so many awesome things that Mother Nature has! Utah really is an AMAZING place! I can honestly say that this was the first July 4th I was able to make a snowman! (A very sad and pathetic snowman, non the less, a SNOWMAN!!!)

Don't Ever Give Up!

Looking back at the past few months (in fact the past year) I am speechless! So many trials, bumps, situations and lessons have taken place. So many times I have wanted to throw my hands up in the air and just scream ENOUGH!!

Life is really quite interesting and humorous at times! "Why did that just happen?" You really never quite know "WHY" at the time these situations come into play. Do we ever really figure out "WHY" "it" happened? Maybe a week, 2 months or even a year down the road? Until that moment of light shining through your head--- it's the people around us that helps us that make times much easier or bearable!
Through the past few months I have had the opportunity to have Ty Bud live with me! Life is throwing challenges and curve balls left and right! I can honestly say that having him live with me has been a blessing in disguise! He is one person that can always make me smile and laugh. Ty has the most genuine/sincere heart I have ever seen in anyone. This experience has also been tough and really frustrating at times. I have seen first hand how hard life can be. It makes me sad how much evil is out in the world that we all are faced with daily. I get so frustrated and want to shelter him away from evil to help him with a faster recovery. Unfortunately I"m not superwoman- I have to let him do things for himself.
I want to let him know that I'm so proud of him!!! The road that we have seen the past few months has not been easy. However I look at him and just smile! His efforts and attitude towards life has really changed for the positive. I'm so very proud of him and will always be there to support him!

Whether it be in the workplace, relationships/dating, marriages, home-life, or just life in general - Don't ever give up! There are people out there that love you and support you for who you are! Keep strong and keep your chin up! Things happen for a reason. People come IN and OUT of your lives for a reason! Soak in the moment whether it is good or bad!

Fight till the end! Let the people around you be your support! Life is tough for everyone on different levels. You never know your comment / quote / thought / experience might be exactly what another needs to hear or read.

Thank you to all of my family and friends that have been there and still continue to help me through my life!

TOWANDA!
